If Air Plants Are Wrong I Don't Want To Be Right!
Have you jumped on the air plant bandwagon yet? I'm kind of obsessed! Ok, who am I trying to kid. I'm fully obsessed! I mean, c'mon! I'm writing a blog post about them, so duh!
Anyhoo... air plants are unusual looking, easy to maintain, and best of all, an actual live plant.
What's not to love???
Air plants are a form of bromiliad known as tillandsia. They come in different varieties and can be used to create different effects, from sculptural to whimsical! The best way to water an air plant is to submerge it in water overnight. Air plants only take up as much water as they need, so you won’t overwater by doing this. Then, shake off the excess water and let them dry out. How often you do this is up to you. My plants get watered like this every month or two - more frequently in the winter months when I have the heater turned on. I'm not exactly consistent about this and they're doing fine, so please don't let this deter you!
What I love about air plants is that they are placed on, or in things - and not actually planted, which means that just about anything can become a planter!

I hope I've motivated you to get your own airplants this weekend! Locally, I buy mine from Flowerland in Albany, but most garden stores will sell them. Hit up a thrift store and find yourself a fun planter. Tea cups, shot glasses, candle sticks... You are only limited by your imagination!
